New Ukraine Project

The New Ukraine Project is devoted to helping Ukraine secure its independence and take its place in Europe as a fully free and democratic nation.

Winning the war

While the war rages, the project is focused on how Ukraine can win: the Western aid and investment Kyiv needs and what Ukrainians can do, from reforming their economy to strengthening their home-grown defense industry, to resist Russian aggression.

The project highlights the continued need for Western military aid, humanitarian assistance, budgetary support, and refugee resettlement, exploring ways to speed Ukraine’s accession to the European Union and NATO.

Winning the peace

Looking ahead to the end of the war, PPI is tracking Ukrainians’ efforts to build the independent, Western nation they are fighting and dying for — to rebuild the economy, strengthen civil society, eliminate corruption, and create new political institutions to protect individual rights and liberties.

When the fighting stops

When the fighting stops, the project will monitor the effects and aftermath of the war, including the traumatic violence inflicted on the Ukrainian people and international efforts to hold Russia’s autocratic rulers accountable.

Now and into the future, the project will challenge the West to remain engaged, tracking efforts to prosecute Russian war crimes and making the case for maintaining pressure — economic sanctions and a robust NATO — that inhibits Moscow’s ability to threaten the rest of Europe.
